When we say forage fed, this is what we're talking about. The first three pictures show some of this year's calves in a sorghum field where they were turned out to graze in late summer. The bottom left picture shows a close-up of the sorghum, which is actually a grass, grasshopper and all. The last two are of Neil and Daniel putting up hay for winter feed.. The bermuda-grass field is right next to where the calves had been turned out to graze. We cut over 50 additional acres of sorghum for silage to supplement our pastures through the winter. Of course, nothing's as green right now as in these pictures. It's been a pretty dry end of the summer and things are turning brown. That's one of the challenges of the cattle business. Mother Nature doesn't always cooperate.
